Choosing a Catchy Brand or Business Name Step 3:

Create possible business/brand names with co-workers, friends

Ask a person for their opinion, or ask several, concerning business names and business name searches and the process can turn into a never-ending free-for-all. At the same time-when handled properly-utilizing the creative minds and energy of select friends, co-workers or others can work in your favor, when selecting a business name.

But you have to have some guidelines to create ideas for company names, brand names and product names. Here are a few of those guidelines to get you started:
1. Create a group with 6-15 people- This is a group number, which is still manageable, and will allow you to have enough brainstorming power, without the session devolving into cliques, or others talking over you.

2. Inform the group of all of the brainstorming information up-front- Create an outline or report that includes the reason for the business name, in what countries the name will most likely appear and any other information needed to begin brainstorming.

3. Limit the group session- Anything over 60 to 90 minutes is too much. Once you go over that an hour and a half, participants lose their concentration.

4. Make the environment inviting to ideas- The best way to invite and open up ideas from all of your participants, is to make sure that you seat each person, so they can see each other and place the facilitator in the middle. A horseshoe shape arrangement is the best. It's in an environment like this that your group will feel less intimidated and real team building can take place.

5. Keep the group focused- Once the group begins, keep them focused on only delivering the best business names or brand names and nothing else. Let people speak, but do not allow extemporaneous speaking about ideas, only names.

6. Allow all ideas- Before making the decision on the business name ideas, take all suggestions from your group into consideration, initially, and write them all down.

7. Accept all Feedback - Not only should you set up brainstorming sessions with your employees, or co-workers, but you should also pitch names to anyone that you trust, be it family members, friends, etc. The biggest outcome of any pitch session should be getting worthy feedback.
